The original name of the museum is "Muzej Istochne Bosne Tuzla" and was founded in 1947. It is a Regional museum with very different types of collections. Among them are the collections of  Archaeology (rich pre-history, Celtic bronze jewellery, Roman, medieval) 15,000 artefacts; History (emphasis on WWII period) 12,000 artefacts; Ethnology 8,000; Natural History 3,000; Art (including works of D. Mihajlovich) 1,000; Numismatics. The total number of volumes in the library is more than 15,000
