Mures County Museum

The present museum resulted from the merging of two older museums. In 1886 the Museum of Industrial Art of the Szeckler people was established. In 1934 the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography was established. After 1945, the Museum of History was created. The museum was reorganized in 1968. Since 1979 the Museum of History has functioned in the Palace of Culture. The Palace of Culture is a monument of architecture, built in 1913. It was restored between 1979 and 1982. Currently it shelters archaeology and history collections: the bronze deposit of Suseni, containing a famous fibula bearing pendants (the 12th century BC), the bronze deposit of Band, proto-Thracian pottery, the provincial Roman pottery of Criste?ti, the Roman iron tools of M?rculeni, mediaeval artifacts and weapons, relics regarding craft guilds (coins, silverware, documents); mediaeval ornaments (the 17th century); rare books.
