The Muzej Unsko-sanskog kantona (which is original name of the museum) was founded in 1953.That is the  Regional Museum of Una-Sana Canton. It is also responsible for the following branch museums:
1. Kapetanova kula (The Captain’s Tower)
2. Museum of the first Session of AVNOJ
