Sinjska Alka

About the event
Traditional knightly competition of the Sinj alkari which evokes memories of the victorious past; a colourful competition which exhibits the skilful combination of horse riding and aiming a lance of 295cm in length into a iron ring which is set up on a rope at a height of 332cm – this ring is called the “alka”.
It consists of three races, on the first day the “Bara” is run, on the second day the “Coja” and the third day the “Alka”. The winners of the Bara and Coja and the triumphant winner of the Alka are awarded cash prizes and commemorative medallions. The Alka is part of a wider manifestation which has recently been called the DAYS OF THE ALKA AND ASSUMPTION held from the 20th of July to the 20th of August every year in Sinj.
