Horserace at Kalliopi Village

The Horserace is a beautiful event that is realised in the Kalliopi village, with particular splendour and the participation of people from all over Limnos, on the celebration of Saint George. This event occurs every year since the Late Middle Ages.
Even the Turks honoured the Saint George because at that time two teams participated in the horserace, the Greeks and the Turks.
Only in 1940 the horserace is suspended for two years because of the war. The priest of the church of Saint George rewards the first three jockeys and their horses.
