This historic town lies on the slopes of Frushka Gora, on the right bank of the Danube, and it is surrounded by vineyards. The town is an integral part of the lovely landscape and an example and of harmonious unity of cultural and natural heritage. Karlovci grew rapidly after 1713, when the Metropolitan seat was moved here. The present-day historic centre of Sremski Karlovci is a product of the development of the town in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. The urban centre is organised around the Square of Branko Radichevich. Here there are many historical buildings of high architectural and artistic value, which have a special place in the cultural history of the Serbs.
