The Hatuniye Madrasa was completed in 1382 for Nefise Sultan, the daughter of Murad I and wife of the ruling Karamanid Ala al-Din Bek. Built by the architect Numan bin Khwaja Ahmad, the madrasa follows a traditional plan of an arcaded courtyard with an iwan at each end. The monumental stone entrance portal projects from the general outline and opens into one iwan. The portal has a stalactite niche and a wide, shallow-arched doorway following the Seljuk style. Its border decoration is a simplification derived from that of the Gok Madrasa in Sivas and the Cifte Minare Madrasa in Erzurum.
