This synagogue was designed by the Hungarian architects Marcell Komor and Dezo Jakab and built in 1901–1902. It is an outstanding work of Hungarian Art Nouveau. The central part of the synagogue is crowned with a huge dome, with smaller domes at the four corners. The interior is decorated with gilded plaster ornaments. The wooden and iron decorative elements are designed and executed with exquisite craftsmanship and precision. The exterior of the synagogue displays a rich variety of plain-brick and plastered sections, as well as glazed-terracotta decorative elements.
